Mar 2nd: VFR Sundays Cyprus

Starting from next Sunday 2nd March 08, from 1500-1700z Air Traffic Services will be provided at Paphos (LCPH) in Cyprus by CvACC ATC every second Sunday. So all of you budding glider pilots and general aviation pilots bring your wings over to Cyprus and enjoy some quality gliding and flying and circuit training in sunny Cyprus. Group cross country flights to Larnaca (LCLK) and Kingsfield airbase (CX00) will be planned once a month. Mar 7-8th: ZAU Angels Event

The unpredictability of life could put any of us in a position of need. Accidents can happen at any moment that leave you or loved ones without the resources to receive medical attention or make it back home. What would anyone do in this situation?

Imagine if a group of volunteer pilots were available to fly you anywhere in the country to receive top of the line medical care. Imagine if these volunteer pilots could take you on one last trip to see your family on the other coast. Angel Flight Central does all this and more. These pilots, out of the goodness of their hearts, selflessly give up their time and resources to fly children and others all across the country so that they can receive the best in medical treatment and have a chance at a fulfilling life. But, they can not do it alone.

The Chicago ARTCC is sponsoring a 24 hour Control-a-thon to celebrate life and help Angel Flight with their mission. We welcome all pilots to fly in between 1900 Central Time on March 7th and 1900 Central Time on March 8th (0z-0z). You have the opportunity to help a child receive the care they need and instill the love of aviation in the leaders of tomorrow.

We kindly ask for any help you are willing to give us for this cause. Angel Flight Central will be collecting donations via their secure website found here. Donors are kindly asked to select ARTCC in the “introduced to Angel Flight by” column. Please help change the life of a child in need. Together, we as a group of aviation enthusiasts can instill the love of aviation for a child who honestly needs our help. The bottom line: Angel Flight Central saves lives, and by donating, so can you

Feb 23rd: Runway to Holland

"KLM1773, runway 24, cleared for an immediate take-off, traffic is on 5 miles final." Yes, you are right! The famous one-runway operations night is coming to Schiphol! Only one runway will be in use, so the arrivals will be on the same runway as the departures, no matter if the weather requires it. Do you think you can supply the maximum load of traffic our controllers can handle, and let them work as hard as they can? Then join us in this event! This is your chance to test if we are as good as we say we are ;-). The more traffic the better.

The event will be held on Saturday, the 23rd of February, from 18:00 to 22:00 UTC. Charts and information are to be found on the Events page. We looking forward to seeing you on Saturday!

Feb 16th: Porto Unreal Ops

The Porto unit of Portugal vACC invites all pilots to participate in its Unreal Ops event, on February 16th 2008 from 1200Z to 2400Z.

Fly from Porto to all national and international airports. Pilots who wish to participate can see the complete flight schedule and make their reservations at www.portugal-vacc.org/unrealops/index.html

All flights are made up of 2 legs, which should be fully flown by the pilot, using the indicated aircraft. “Slots” and pre-defined gates will be used. A team of ATCOs will provide ATC throughout the event.

The fact that the event is an Unreal Ops event means that the schedule used was specifically created for the event and has no connection to the real schedule. With your participation we can make this event “Even better than the real thing!”

Feb 9th: In loving memory of Scott Brown

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Scott Brown. Scott Brown was a friend and mentor to many; especially in his senior management role with Eastern Virtual Airlines. Scott’s devotion to virtual flying was unequaled. His passion for flight simulation touched many hearts and forged many friendships both in his chosen VA and the flight simulation population in general. His friendship and encouragement will be sorely missed. Scott served in the United States Air Force for 20 years and was a real-world pilot.
Blue Skies, Scott…

To honor the life of Scott Brown, there will be an online memorial flight to his real world home airport in Winchester, VA. (KOKV). The scheduled memorial flight will be Saturday, February 9 from Atlanta to Winchester, VA. The time is set for wheels up at 9:00pm EST (2100z). Washington and Atlanta ARTCC will be online to offer their ATC services. Numerous VA’s will be attending this special online flight. Come join us and help celebrate the life of Scott Brown.

Information about flying in US airspace can be found via the VATUSA website

Feb 10th: Göteborg Overload 2008

VACCSCA warmly invites you to join a special Overload Event at the second largest airport in Sweden. Göteborg-Landvetter (ESGG) will be fully staffed including ground, tower, final, approach east and west as well as center to provide the best possible service!

There is one runway at Landvetter and especially during this time of the year the conditions could be challenging with strong winds, heavy snow and possibly limited visibility, since the airport is located at the westcoast of Sweden. Come and enjoy practicing Your skills as pilot!

Why not fly a real life domestic, international or cargo flight for Scandinavian, Lufthansa or KLM? Take a flight from one of the more common destinations like Copenhagen, Arlanda or Gardemoen or a more special City Airline flight to/from for example Tallin, Birmingham or Luleå?

More information is available at the VACCSCA Event website
