Dec 30th: Michigan Ski Trials

VATUSA's ZMP is hosting an event this Saturday, December 30th, at 1800z. The event is called Michigan Ski Trials.

Michigan Ski Trials is a revolutionary new pilot challenge for the best of the best here at VATSIM. Using accurately placed (to real world aeronautical charts) radio antennas placed in a zig-zag pattern around the Michigan Peninsula (and parts of lower Michigan), this event will test your own thinking, flying, and most importantly your navigating skills. From your starting airport (KSAW for jets, KTVC for props) you will depart and travel to a handful of scenic locations where you are to find a certain antenna, fly around it, and move on to the next needle. There are four needles to find in the jet route and three to find in the prop route. Once having successfully (under the watchful eye of a Center controller) completed the mission, you are to land at Alpena, MI (KAPN) where you receive your flight time!

Event signup is available at http://minniecenter.org/ski.php

Nov 26th: Keflavik Fly-In

Yes we are still alive up here in Iceland and we want to invite all of you to come and enjoy an exciting event with full ATC coverage over Iceland and a fully staffed Keflavik International Airport (BIKF). Keflavik Airport was built by the US Army during WWII and was considered a valuable stop-over link between USA and Europe and during the Cold War its importance was at the highest. On September 30th 2006 the US Army pulled back all armed forces from the airport and officially handed it over to the Icelandic government. With this event we would like to pay our respects to the US soldiers that have defended our country for over 60 years, and at the same time celebrate that Keflavik Airport is now our own.

The event is on 26th November from 1800 - 2100 UTC

Examples of airports that will be staffed:

KBTL - W.K Kellogg Airport, Battle Creek, MI
KMKG - Muskegon Airport, MI
KGYY - Gary International Airport, IN
KDPA - DuPage Airport, IL

Come fly the Boeing 747 to Bodø (ENBO) or Bardufoss (ENDU), or you might want to take an aircraft like the 767 to Tromsø (ENTC) or Banak (ENNA) Bored by all the jets? Why not take a Dash 8 or Twin Otter, and make use of the many small airports along the coast? Hammerfest (ENHF), Hasvik (ENHK) and Sørkjosen (ENSR) are all challenging airports, even for the experienced pilot. And that ain't even half of what the north have to offer.

So start up you aircraft, and head up north!

South East RTS (UK) Summer Real Ops Day: Oct 22nd

VATSIM-UK in conjunction with South East Regional Training Scheme proudly present the summer edition of their bi-annual Real Operations Event, and this time the hot English summer sun has got to them, as this event will last a full day!

The SE-RTS Real Operations day will take place on Sunday October 22nd from 0500z to 2300z (EGKK movements start from 0800z), allowing for a full days worth of movements from the busiest day in UK Aviation, the Summer Bank Holiday. Three major airfields will be manned, these will be the worlds busiest single runway airport London Gatwick (EGKK) and two south coast regional airports of Southampton (EGHI) and Bournemouth (EGHH). This year’s event involves over 750 planned movements into and out of the three airfields, with real world flightplans from this summer.

This years movements include flights operated by Britten Norman Tri-landers to Tupolev 154’s and Boeing 747’s, from small regional carriers to major UK, European and International Carriers.

To make this even more realistic from our previous three events, for the first time at our event we will be enforcing all NOTAMs (Notice to Airman) and operating ATC units in accordance with standard opening times.

Booking is available now through our website at http://serts.evvivasystems.co.uk . To book, simply register with the system, then book the flight or flights you wish to operate.

It only takes 90 minutes to reach either side directly.

Come and enjoy the express service that we have prepared for you. Further information is on our Fly-in website http://www.vatroc.org/chinese/event/061021/.
